UKWAZI SCHOOL OF NURSING PTY LTD is a registered HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION and its nursing qualifications are registered by the SOUTH AFRICAN QUALIFICATIONS AUTHORITY.  It is accredited  by the COUNCIL ON HIGHER EDUCATION and by the SOUTH AFRICAN NURSING COUNCIL.  

The Main Campus is in Roodepoort, Gauteng, South Africa and there is also a Sub-Campus in Potchefstroom, North West Province, South Africa.

COMMENCEMENT OF NEW NURSING QUALIFICATIONS

New nursing qualifications are being introduced to replace all of the old qualifications that were phased out on 31 December 2019.  

UKWAZI SCHOOL OF NURSING as one of only a few institutions in the country COMMENCED with the new Higher Certificate in Auxiliary Nursing (R169) and the new Diploma in Nursing (General Nurse)(R171) this year (2020).  Intakes for both qualifications were full (within the number of students prescribed by the SOUTH AFRICAN NURSING COUNCIL).

INTAKES FOR 2021

Applications for 2021 for the HIGHER CERTIFICATE IN AUXILIARY NURSING (R169) and the DIPLOMA IN NURSING (R171) are now open and will CLOSE ON 31 JULY 2020.

Who we are

UKWAZI SCHOOL OF NURSING PTY LTD ("the SCHOOL") is a private education and training institution focused on the health care industry.  We have campuses in Johannesburg (Roodepoort), Gauteng and Potchefstroom (Tlokwe), North West Province.   

Governance

UKWAZI SCHOOL OF NURSING PTY LTD is a private company duly registered in terms of the company laws of the Republic of South Africa.  It is governed by a board of directors.    The SCHOOL is not subsidised by the State.

The SCHOOL is provisionally registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training until December 2022 as a private Higher Education Institution under the Higher Education Act, 1997 - Registration Certificate No 2018/HE07/002.

Our history

UKWAZI SCHOOL was incorporated in 2002.  Our Main Campus in Roodepoort (Johannesburg, Gauteng) was accredited by the SOUTH AFRICAN NURSING COUNCIL in 2003 and the Potchefstroom sub-campus in 2006.  We have gone from strength to strength since then and pride ourselves on being a nursing education institution which has taken its place amongst the frontrunners in private nursing education in South Africa.

It is our mission to develop and provide nursing education and training of the highest degree of excellence in serving the needs of the South African community.  We are committed to excellence of service to our students, our contracted hospitals, stakeholders and the community.  We are committed to providing these services with integrity and compassion.

Our Philosophy

The philosophy of UKWAZI SCHOOL OF NURSING is anchored in the belief that nursing education should prepare students to function safely and effectively as nursing practitioners.  We believe that nursing education should provide students an opportunity to progress within a laddered curriculum in order to enhance the profession of nursing and to serve as a foundation for life-long learning.  Nurses should be prepared to provide ethical, holistic and compassionate care to diverse populations in a variety of settings. We feel that our vision and mission can best be accomplished by incorporating into our curriculum the standards set forth by our regulatory, quality assuring and governing bodies as well as evidenced-based research provided by colleagues and industry.

QUALIFICATIONS

All legacy nursing qualifications have been phased out effective 31 December 2019 and new qualifications are being phased in.

Two of the new qualifications have already commenced in 2020.  These are

  • the HIGHER CERTIFICATE in AUXILIARY NURSING (SAQA ID 98915)(NQF Level 5) - a 1 year programme; and 
  • the DIPLOMA IN NURSING (SAQA ID 97938)(NQF Level 6) - a 3 year programme.

UKWAZI SCHOOL OF NURSING commenced with these qualifications this year.

PRINCIPAL

 

Ria van der Merwe is the principal of our Roodepoort campus.  She is a co-founder and director of the School.  She serves on the Academic Board of the School and is also a director of UKWAZI SKILLS CAMPUS PTY LTD

   

VICE-PRINCIPAL

 

Pamela Sishuba is a director of the SCHOOL; she serves on the Academic Board and is our public relations officer.  She is also a director of UKWAZI SKILLS CAMPUS PTY LTD
